A detailed study on policy aspects and status of energy storage technologies in the context of ASEAN can be future work. Foreseeing the massive RE growth and adoption of electric vehicles, a robust policy framework for energy storage facilities is anticipated in the near future.
Many countries in the ASEAN region have adopted this rooftop solar system idea and the demand is continually increasing thanks to its potential long-term benefit in reducing the electricity cost (Fig. 6). Moreover, rooftop solar systems become a timely and resource-efficient way for the countries to meet it's renewable energy goals.
In the ASEAN region total installed capacity of floating PV was below 1 MW till 2019, but large-scale floating PV module installations grew rapidly in Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, and Philippines from year 2020 and onwards.
Uncertainty and delay affected the success of solar policies in some ASEAN member states. Adoption of the FiT scheme for early-stage PV development and the Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) for advanced-stage PV development are the main policy recommendations.
East Asia stands at a critical juncture for its energy future. This report provides a practical roadmap for transforming both power generation and industry together—because they're deeply connected.
