Singapore has surpassed its 2025 energy storage deployment target three years early, with the official opening of the biggest battery storage project in Southeast Asia. With just one project, EMA has achieved and exceeded Singapore’s deployment target of 200MWh of energy storage by 2025. The target was set as part of the EMA programme, Accelerating Energy Storage Access for Singapore (ACCESS), through which the EOI solicitation was held.

The 200MW system is currently being installed across two sites on Jurong Island – Banyan and Sakra – spanning 2ha of land in total, which is equivalent to the size of four football fields. Energy storage systems can also quickly manage mismatches in electricity supply and demand to help stabilise the power grid.
