The Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) has released a list of 33 prequalified bidders for its 8GWh BESS project. The tender, structured as a build-own-operate model, attracted significant energy companies, both local and international. These include Masdar, ACWA Power, EDF, TotalEnergies, and Jinko Power, among others.
The successful implementation of BESS projects will significantly contribute to Saudi Arabia’s goal of increasing the share of renewable energy in its power mix, targeting 50% by 2030.
In total, 33 bidders qualified: 21 applied to provide technologies and manage BESS facilities, and the remaining 12 applied only to manage assets. SPPC was established by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 2017 as the Principal Buyer of electricity, capacity, and system services under the supervision of the country’s Ministry of Energy.
